It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

The magic in a child's eyes at Christmas always makes me cry.  I love to the look on their face everytime they see Santa, hear sleigh bells, and sing the wrong words to Christmas songs.  I love how important it is that they pick out the perfect present for grandparents and they get the icing and candy just right on the gingerbread house.  This time of the year always reminds me that people are kind, considerate, passionate, and full of surprises.

Here is what we have been up to at our house!!!

I have finished 5 of the 20 blocks for the quilt I am making Rayne.  She told me they coming along great and she would like me to be done my March.  Ummmm, does she know how big this quilt is?!

<insert photo>

I am almost done with my quilt in oranges, reds, golds, and mustards.  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this quilt.  It looks even more amazing then I thought it would.  I am using veriegated thread for the first time and I think it adds a little more depth to the quilting.  I am still improving with my free motion quilting and this quilt really shows that.  It is amazing how much better I get just in doing it for a couple of hours.  Well, I am actually 10 hours into quilting and only have half done.

I am also working on a new quilt block.  I started playing around with some jelly rolls strips I had left over from a couple of previous projects so I just sewed them together. And then I cut! And then I ironed!  And then I sewed those to some other fabric I had.  And then I cut! and then I ironed!.... And I hated it!

So, I headed to the fabric store with a quilting friend and we but our heads together and came up with a plan.  So I headed home.  Cut fabric!  Sew!  Iron! and here is the progress report for the first 12 blocks.

All I have to say is LOVE IT!

Tales of the Weeks

Well, it has been forever since I posted.  That is becuase we have been so busy.  In the past three weeks we:

Went to Calloway Gardens for Ronald Bike for MS Fundraiser.  My cousin, father-in-law and husband all rode 96 miles to raise money for MS.  We all had a great time cheering them on.  Here is Ronald crossing the finish line.

Celebrated our anniversary 6 year anniversary.  I can't believe how fast it has gone by.  Can't wait to see what we do for the next 6 years.

Gone camping at the lake with our friends.  I did have a cute photo of the kids and Ronald fishing but I can't find it.

I made Ronald a new apron for grilling complete with a tool belt.  I tried my hardest to make it more manly but it is still an apron.  I like the flaming chili peppers!

More photos to follow!!!!

Monday Design Table

I would like to start posting where I am on Mondays with my projects.  Most people post a snap shot of thier design wall.  However, I don't have a design wall yet and today is not Monday.  This is a work in progress!  But, I did take a photo last night of where I was with the quilt I am working on for Rayne.  She picked this quilt pattern herself.  I feel like I have been cutting for DAYS... oh wait, I have.  So far I have cut about 6 yards of fabric and I am sure there is more to go.

Here is where I am today though:

We will see how I do with my design table!

Fabric Cutting?!

Do you think I should let Rayne help me cut?

I am sure there will be some other things thrown in there.  Always seems to be on the weekend.  They always go so fast and seem to be so much fun.

FABRIC, FABRIC, FABRIC... Oh the Possibilities

Well, this weekend was one of my favorites sales at Joann; all clearance fabric was an additional 50% off and I had an additional 10% off coupon!!!  After three, yep 3, trips to Joann I have lots new fabric to show for it.  Here is a sampling.  I say sampling because I think I bought 65 yards of fabric.

Rayne is having a blast with all of these fabrics designing her next quilt.  I can't wait to see what all of this turns into!

Blog Update

I have made a ton of changes to my blog and there are more to come.  I will also be posting more regularly and about more then just sewing, mainly because I have a husband, 2 kids, 2 dogs, friends, a career and not a ton of time to sew.  There is so much to post.  On a positive note this blog has been read by people in Alaska this month.  I think that is amazing.

Needless to say, tomorrow is a big day.  Fabric sale!!!  Shhhhh, don't tell anyone until after I shop.

I can't decide between two patterns. The first is on Moda Bakeshop by crazy mom quilts.
http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/08/cartwheels-quilt.html - Cartwheels quilt by crazy mom quilts.  This is her photo on modabakeshop and her blog is here :http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/.  I love this pattern.  I was thinking bright, fun, young fabric.

And I can't find the other one, but i have the print out here.

I guess only time will tell.  Night!

Progress Report - When is Friday?

Well, I have been getting a lot of things done in my state of the art sewing room ... okay, so it isn't state of the art and it isn't exactly a sewing room.  Technically it is more a sewing room than a dining room.  I have done way more sewing in it then dining.

Finally, after a year, my son's quilt is ALMOST done. All I have to do is finish stitching the binding on!!!!  I can't believe.  Apparently, neither can he.  Every time I turn by back he has stolen if from me to lay on the couch one.  I can't complain though; that is why I made it.

I will post pics soon.

New Apron!

Here is an apron I completed for Halloween this year.  It is reversable so that it can be used more than the 20 days before Halloween.  I think it came out okay.  I would like to thank RK for modeling this for me.  You did a great job!

Finally!!!!!

Well, how long has it been!

We have finally settled in.  We aren't unpacked and situated but we are getting there.  And... I found the sewing maching a couple of days ago!  I have not had it since October due to the fact that it was in storage.  What was suppose to be a 2 month move has ended up being 7 months! What a relief!  I am hoping to do some sewing soon.

I am still in the process of setting up the sewning room... yes, sewing room.  It will actually be a sewing, toy and play room but I will take what I can get.  I think it will work out quite nicely.  I can't wait to get the design wall up and the machine set up.  I have some GREAT ideas for projects I want to do.

I did take advantage though and the last visited to my Mom I used her maching and made the cutest apron from some of her old jeans.  I am looking forward to making a few more. I made one for me for doing home projects like painting (I did just move) and I made one for my Mom for doing gardening (she loves to do that).  I hope she will enjoy her as much as I will mine.  Now, if I could just start sewing again; it just seems to relax me!

I will keep you posted on the sewing room and when i get the machine up and running... AHHH I can't wait!
